Seen on FM-Style: Cycle 17

HELLO FM-STYLERS!
First there was the club, then we had the blog and we have been reviewing cycles since Cycle 7, so here is your final recap of Cycle 17!!

A quick summary if you're new here and you don't know what I'm talking about:
We are mirdith and judith_25, two sisters in real life that started organizing fashion contests in a Stardoll club organized in weekly tasks to style their dolls having one contestant eliminated each week. At the end there is only one final winner. We've been going on since 2013 and since people seem to enjoy it, we are continuing doing it.
With that said... Let's get right into business.

Introduction
Cycle 17 started while I was doing a Master abroad, therefore I was not physically together with Judith and the organization and preparation of the cycle was not something that was on our plans. But, people were asking for it and it had been a while since we did our last cycle so we decided to try it, even though we would have virtual meetings to plan everything through (professional, I know, this is how the Stylish Stardoll Sisters work). Since I was busy and with a lot of things in my mind, I could not handle being the organizer of this cycle, so here is where it comes a difference from all previous cycles hosted at FM-Style: Judith was the CEO!!

We have always worked together, but usually it was Judith behind the creation of the tasks and I was the one putting together the feedback and scores. This time it was ALL Judith, she handled EVERYTHING and she did it amazingly! Honestly, being only a judge and just giving my opinion on matters has been so much easier, so I would want you to know how much hard work this cycle is and how well Judith managed it all! Thank you for taking care of everything Judith! <3

Sponsors & Judges
We put a lot of work into this cycles, but the prizes and a fair judging and scoring is achieved thanks to the dedication of other people involved in the cycle as well. HUGE THANK YOU to the judges and sponsors to make this possible.

As sponsors we had... irina.shayk and localsaint and also some prizes were awarded by judith_25

And for the panel of judges we had both myself and judith_25, the former winner bornthiswaay, localsaint, Marta_03 and also irina.shayk as a guest judge for the semifinal and final.

Favorite Tasks
During Cycle 17 there has been so many talent since the very beginning up to a point where it was so hard to see all these talented people go week after week.

In this post, I'll be sharing my favorite entries for each Task here together with who won that task according to the judges. Don't hesitate to share your favorites in the comment section. In this slideshow you can see everything that happened during the cycle: the task, the examples from the judges and what all contestants delivered. The inspiration photos that we shared for each task can be seen on our FM-Style Tumblr

TASK 1. The Bermuda Triangle
My personal favorite was FunOpler with an outfit with different layers. The winner of the task however was Lawliet. (now Vermut) with her sporty neon outfit.
TASK 2. Vol. II
In this task about creating outfits with volume, the minimalism and elegance of prinsestkm1 captivated me. There were some other very creative outfits around, but the winner of this task was FunOpler.
TASK 3. Crazy Eyes
More like eyebrows. This was a super creative task where they had to add colored brows to their outfits. I loved Vermut's approach with a lot of colors in her outfit, but the winner was also one of my favorites: angharadbbz.
TASK 4. Intimate reveal
There were many cool outfits showing underwear but one of my favs was martapijita299. The winner of the task was again angharadbbz.
TASK 5. Culture appropriation
They had to choose between some given countries so there were some contestants that played with an advantage due to countries with more widespread cultures and therefore more options in Stardoll clothes. What surprise me the most is how kelzsprouse_1 managed to create a cute and cool Greenland outfit. My other favorite of this task was the winner, again angharadbbz with a super fashionable and nice Austrian outfit.
TASK 6. Basic Bitch
For this task they had to style the Basics dress in black or white. I saw so many creative entries for this task that I could share with you, but because almost everyone went for black I'm gonna choose as my favorite the outfit of Sweeg_gal11 because it brings me peace and tranquility. The winner of the task was Vermut with an asiatic inspired outfit with modern touches.
TASK 7. Croupier
I gave so high scores for so many people in this task that is difficult to share just one. The fact is that I was not expecting much from this task but the contestants surprised me with amazing creations. I had a couple or three favorites but because she delivered first and was very quick in doing the task (points for creativity in a rush), I have choosen kelzprouse_1 as my favorite. The well deserved winner of the task was angharadbbz who always delivered the entries with a back story that was funny to read.
TASK 8. The Steps of the Met
The Met was cancelled in real life, but not in our cycle! In this stages of the cycle is always hard to eliminate someone as they are all so talented, but specially in this cycle the difficulty was even higher. All of them were amazing. One of my favorites was Kiedis15 and the winner was vermut. Both outfits took really well the theme: "About Time: Fashion and Duration".

TASK 9. You Have the Right to Remind Silent
They had also to choose one of the given concepts for being arrested. We had a laugh during this task and I had a couple of favorites. One of them was martapijita299 who got arrested over a fight in the street with curling irons! The winner of the task was Kiedis15 with a dramatic sad ending love story involving artists for which she destroyed a sculpt in a museum.
TASK 10. Fashion for a Better World
Besides being creative with their outfits they have to fight for a cause with them. It was a beautiful task that provided us with great outfits. One of the most beautiful outfits that went together with a beautiful concept was from Kiedis15 that created a feminine outfit for his doll in male version. The winner of the task was FunOpler that fighted against plastic use with an outfit using recycled plastic.
SEMIFINAL. Adapt or Die
For the semifinal the contestants always have to deliver two outfits. In this case we wanted them to use one piece of clothing with its regular use (like if it's a top, as a top) and then create a second outfit giving this same piece a different use by resizing or layering or both (like the top used as a skirt for example). In this case, one of my favorites and the winner of the task was Kiedis15 who we have seen grow during this cycle.

FINAL. Trendsetter
On the final we had Kiedis15, martapijita299 and FunOpler. The task required them to present a new trend and create 5 outfits for that trend. I have to say that I think that the outfits I liked more were the ones from FunOpler, the best idea for the trend was from Kiedis15 and the best delivery of the task was from martapijita299. Since the concept from martapijita299 was also nice (actually similar to Kiedis15) and the outfits were really cool, the winner of this cycle was... Jesus!! (martapijita299).

So that is all, hope you enjoyed the recap, don't hesitate in having a look at the Imgur album of the cycle to get inspired or see the amazing creations from our contestants, and keep your eyes open for when the new applications for Cycle 18 are up!

Always a pleasure!

Mireia

Disclaimer: This recap was done ONLY from my point of view (Mireia). Other judges or even Judith have not taken part.

Seen on FM-Style: All Around The World

Before we get into the semi-final review of FM-Style's Team Cycle, we're going to use this post to make a little announcement:

FM-Style is making 5 years! Wohooo!!
We want to celebrate properly so keep your eyes on the club cause something's definitely coming and we're already preparing it so get over there if you haven't done it yet!

Now let's get back to reviewing this brand new amazing cycle we created back this summer. We were in the semi-finals and the game was strong.

Welcome to the first ever #TeamCycle !

Task 9: All Around The World (SEMI-FINAL)
Welcome semifinalists!!! Yes, we’re in the semifinals, that means this task and one more and the Team Cycle will come to an end. 😔

But before we say goodbye we want to go everywhere with you. For the semifinal you have to create different outfits inspired by different countries in the world. One country MUST NOT be repeated in the same team.

Think of tradional food, signature places/things of that country, style for what it’s known of… And represent it in an EDITORIAL OUTFIT.

No cohesion needed for the task as each team member will be representing a different country, but any common details or ideas to unify the task will be highly taken into consideration.

Inspiration Album:

This task was kind of sentimental for us. That fashion photoshoot featured in the inspiration album belonged to the first issue of a fashion magazine we bought. We could say it was the moment in which we felt head over heels for this industry. And because of that, our expectations for our teams were high. Let's see if they reached them:

Those were the semifinalists' entries, next to the score they got:

1. SHADES - 7.95

2.  The Flaming Jalapeño Gang - 7.55

3. Sarcasm. - 8.09

Now we're not gonna pick three favorites, as they were only 3 teams left. Clearly, for the judges the winner was Sarcasm and I have to agree with the final decision. Sarcasm. was for me the best on this task. SHADES created a great entry, but was more focused in representing traditions instead of cultures as it's hole. I had a special affection for my own team, The Flaming Jalapeño Gang, and I thought back then that theirs was the best. Looking back at it right now, I still love the entry, specially how they presented it, but I think that maybe their outfits are super cool but are not as culture representative as Sarcasm. Still, amazing entry as well.

However, the judges did not agree with me in that one, and the ones who got eliminated were in fact my beloved Jalapeños. Meaning that SHADES and Sarcasm. went to the Cycle Final, which will we review as soon as possible and ideally before Cycle 15 starts. ;)

Seen on FM-Style: Stratified Society

Hey, hey, hey!! Before we get on with this I'm going to confess something. I'm stealing this post from Mireia. She had it all prepared, all photos added, the task written, the little text we always put ready and the only thing she had left to do was actually writing it. I'm mean, I know... She did the "boring" part and now I'm taking it away. But I have just judged the final (OMG, OMG, OMG) and I couldn't resist! I was in a complete FM-Style mood. Hope you don't mind Mireia! Ok, now, let's see what happened on task 8!

If you want to follow the cycle closely you will need to join the club FM-Style on Stardoll. To show you a little of what's going on in case you don't know the fashion competitions we host there on the club, this time we have a special cycle (Cycle 14 omg, we're getting old). We got to 600 members, and to celebrate that we're hosting a team cycle, meaning contestants don't take part individually but in teams, forcing them to work together and deliver kind of coordinated entries.

Welcome to the first ever #TeamCycle !

Task 8: Stratified Society
This is the task before the semi-final. There are still 5 groups left, and the winner will be declared just in 2 more tasks. As in last task there was no elimination, this week will be a double elimination! We repeat what we said on last task: forget about the street style rule! It’s not necessary anymore. You can opt to do street style, but it can be editorial if you wish to do that.

That being said… Task 8, stratified society. Can you imagine what are we talking about? Low, middle and upper class. Those three different society classes must be reflected on your entries, each one done by a different member of the team.

You can choose to do it in the actual era, or go to the past for inspiration, that is totally your choice. The outfits should still have some cohesion, but coordination would not be necessary. You already know how this works. Wish you the best of luck!

DISCLAIMER: This is a form of speech, we are not dividing or criticizing people. The way you dress doesn’t particularly have to show which class you belong to. Just look to the inspiration album to see what we mean. We are referring to topics in here, not trying to offend anyone or any particular style. In fact the three outfits should be equally amazing no matter which class you’re representing.

Inspiration Album:

So for me this task had two major difficulties:
1. Managing to make all three looks stylish and equally cool, no matter the social status they're representing.
2. Make the three of them look coordinated while make them different enough that you can clearly see which social status was thought for each one.

Not sure about the reason why this time we didn't have judges examples either, but anyway, the sisters always make up for it in the blog so... here it is! And with the beautiful gothic quarter of Barcelona as background ;)
For coordination we focused on the use of gold jewellery as depending on its looks (and quality) it can look either very elegant or very tacky. And a little touch of red, which I don't remember if it was planned or not but looks really good!

And these are the teams' entries, together with the score they got for this task:

1. Team KAL - 7.56

2. SHADES - 7.25

3. MAC TEAM - 6.63

4.  The Flaming Jalapeño Gang - 8.31

5. Sarcasm. - 8.56

This task brought many cool and interesting outfits. I am quite satisfied with what our teams presented though it's true that in some cases the difference between one class and the other is less obvious. After doing the example and seeing the contestants entries I am realising that the struggle is between middle class and high class, which tend to end up looking more similar. But anyway, here are my favourites!

- On first place of my personal podium, and being objective (at least I think I am, after all they won the task...), we have Sarcasm.! I love the outfits Jane and Sami created. Both lower class and high class are quite exaggerated looks which make the difference between the three classes clearer. And the tree are amazingly cool and they look good together, so GREAT!

- Second place goes to The Flaming Jalapeño Gang! The selection of colours Whitney, Lucía and Kelly used looks so lovely and they all look super cute with the background. I was hoping for something more extravagant and luxurious for the high class look, but still, an amazing task.

- And finally on my third place we have Team Kal (ok, just realised I completely agree with the results... it wasn't on purpose promise)! They worked really well on this task doing research and putting together a more meaningful task. Their outfits represent the three classes based on the blue collar, the white collar and the gold collar. Which is a concept for jobs I'm not going to be able to express correctly so if you're interested google it. Ana and Kat always do very well on the concept part, but in my opinion middle class and high class outfits were very similar and could be improved, so that's why they're on third place and not first... Cause I have to say it, I love a good well thought concept! ;)

If you read last review (check it HERE) you already know that a double elimination was coming. To make it fair the elimination was based in the media between the marks of task 7 and the marks of task 8, and that meant we had to say goodbye to MAC TEAM and Team Kal. Really sad for the sisters as we both lost one of our teams, but you can't argue with numbers and mathematics.

Seen on FM-Style: The Feminist Club

Well hello there once again!
It's your OG sister (cause I was born first basically): Mireia. Right now we have a weekend off FM-Style as we're in the final, which consists in a two weeks deadline. So, as we're waiting for the fortunate and talented finalists to complete their entries, I'm gonna continue doing the recaps.

For task 7 we wanted the feminist vibe to be present, and we kinda did en educational task, for contestants to be creative and do research on feminism. As Judith mentioned on last review, at this point of the team cycle there was no score board, instead, the one who got the less amount of points from judges leave the competition at the end of the week. Continue reading to find out the task, what they did and who got out!

Task 7: The Feminist Club
3 tasks left girls. Things are getting more and more exciting. Forget about the street style rule! From now on, think EDITORIAL. The three tasks left will need of your creative skills and abilities to think beyond the outfit. But let’s not get ahead. Task 7 first.

For this task we are going to give you several photoshoot titles, all of them related with feminism. You must create three outfits for that title.

The way you decide to portray it, coordination or not, it’s completely up to you but as you already know the final picture must look good. If it’s needed you can write a group description explaining the concept or reasons behind your decisions in the task, so the judges can see exactly what you’re seeing.

That said, here are your titles. Pick one and state it in the task’s topic, each team must do a different one so first come, first serve.

TITLES:
- Girls just want to have fun
- Pink Ghetto
- Superwomen
- Goddess 2.0
- Breaking the glass ceiling

Inspiration Album: N/A

As we did not have tittles for judges, we did not post any judges' examples on this task. However, as Judith and myself are special, the Stylish Stardoll Sisters after all, we've done our own version. After the judging was done and everything. We decided to portray Pink Guetto, playing with the literal tittle and so adding guetto vibes to the outfits and the background, adding pink in all the outfits, but still keep them feminine and powerful.

And this is what the teams represented, together with the score they got for this task:

1. Team KAL "Pink Guetto" - 8.25

2. SHADES "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" - 9.15

3. MAC Team "Superwomen" - 6.55

4.  The Flaming Jalapeño Gang "Goddess 2.0" - 8.94

5. Sarcasm. - 8.01

For this task, I was somehow expecting more. Not better outfits, cause those entries are filled with them, but more meaning to the task, more feminism concepts involved in everyone's descriptions. They did it, I'm not complaining, but I was hoping for MORE. Here goes my favorites:

- First place has to go to SHADES. Their concept was not very original and different and deep, but the outfits and coordination they showed in the entry was amazing. Beata, Federico and Patricia got the 80s vibe they were going for, and I love the use of colours, very different from what we're used to see.

- The second place in my favorites goes to The Flaming Jalapeño Gang. They did their research as well but focusing on different goddesses from different cultures and they put those amazing gowns into the middle of the city which gives an amazing 2.0 feeling. Definitely, WhitneyLucia and Kelly are true style goddesses.

- And third place is for having in mind that thing I mentioned before, the deep concept. I loved how my own team Team KAL constructed their outfits from items that represented their ideals.  Ana and Kat did great. This is what I'm talking about taken out from their task description --> [...] The chains, belts and other restricting items were to represent the restrictive nature of pink ghetto, noticing that yet women still do not have full control of their occupations and how they are to be interpreted. [...] The colour silver as a motif to being  “second” and "inferior" in the working and societal class due to pink ghetto jobs and women being pigeonholed into the same “nurturing” and “fragile-minded” stereotype. This also ties in with the professional styled clothing as a signal for being ready for business, being ready to take on business and not having to throw away femininity, which is emphasized through the use of traditionally feminine items such as the colour pink, handbags and heels.

As the judging was not ready for Sunday, we decided to put out there Task 8 anyway, without feedback and scores. Like that, there was no possible elimination, so we announced what they all feared: double elimination for task 8. The results would be combined from Task 7 and Task 8, and the two groups with less points on these two tasks would be out.

Seen on FM-Style: Nature of an icon

The day has finally come! I'm about to do my very first recap on the Team Cycle. And what a way to start, Task 6, when the elimination round started!

Beginning on task 6 the cycle started working like a regular cycle (except for the fact that they're participating in teams obviously) and contestants have to give their best every week cause if they let something slip, just one tiny mistake, they might end up being eliminated. No one is safe.

It was also on task 6 when Mireia renovated our Inspiration Album, turning it into a Tumblr page, much more visual and a lot cooler to look at.

And what was the occasion? You might ask. What was task 6 about? What got one of the teams eliminated for the first time and which was this team? Well, you're about to see.

Task 6: Nature of an icon
Trends come and go but in the fashion world there are some items that will always be a CLASSIC and a MUST in our wardrobes, like for example the three we're proposing for this task: LITTLE BLACK DRESS, WHITE BUTTON DOWN SHIRT & BLUE DENIM JEANS

Style the three iconic fashion pieces with an outfit, one iconic item per each member of the team. Also, there must be cohesion between the three outfits, you already know what that means by now, the final picture has to look good and make sense, not random.

Inspiration Album:

Coaches and judges actually had to discuss wether or not to give examples for this task. We didn't want to limit the possibilities for the contestants. In the end we decided to make just a collaborative example featuring Lucy (SunnySidesSue) and yours truly, The Stylish Stardoll Sisters.

And this is what our teams presented and the mark they got for it:

1. Team KAL - 8.38

2. SHADES - 8.40

3. MAC TEAM - 7.44

4. The Flaming Jalapeño Gang - 8.88

5. The Hex Girls - 6.50

6. Sarcasm. - 7.81

And my favourites, the three teams that did better to style the nature of an icon for me were:

- My first place is reserved for Team KAL!! I'm amazed with Ana, Kat and Leigh (even if technically Leigh was missing on this task). They started the cycle being one of the teams with lower marks and something clicked on them and they haven't stopped improving! This task is proof! I love how they managed to make such cute and simple outfits but at the same time original and different from what you're used to see around stardoll. And their outfits together with the parisian background... isn't that the cutest thing ever?

- My second place is occupied by The Flaming Jalapeño Gang. Absolutely love what Kelly, Whitney and Lucía did here. Amazing outfits, original, colourful and featuring the iconic basic items we gave and turning them into something so BOLD. Love the final picture and love almost every single detail.

- Finally, third place goes to Sarcasm.! There are some issues I don't like, it's not a perfect entry, but the outfits are definitely FM-Style material! Aniyah, Samanta and Jane are looking on point under the task requirements and I would definitely like to steal some of those styling ideas so they deserved the bronze medal ;).

That only leaves us with one thing to comment. Who was the eliminated team?
You may have guessed it with seeing the marks, unfortunately we had to say goodbye to The Hex Girls. I loved their name and how they always had it in mind for when creating their entries. Sadly they seemed to forgot it was an elimination task and got a little bit too relaxed. Their outfits for task 6, though still nice, were a little bit common and way under the judges expectations for what these three girls can do, and so Task 6 became the last task for Camilla, Maurice and Ashley

See you soon in Task 7 review!
