Seen on FM-Style: Mixing Patterns | Cycle 15 - Task 5

We're not Tom Cruise but we have been in Risky Business this week.
Our contestants had to face a tricky task that could easily go wrong and us judges had to make our first real elimination, as until this moment all our goodbyes were for people that didn't deliver the task in time. To help us with that we also welcomed a new member to the judging panel, the super stylish and one of our oldest club members Amaia (amaia_estebanez), replacing Leticia (leiona_-) who isn't able to judge anymore.

But enough chit chat, let's discover the task that costed us the first loss.

Cycle 15 - Task 5: Mixing Patterns
The tittle says it all, doesn’t it? For this task you have to manage to mix at least two different patterns in your outfit. Those patterns should be visible, not in small accessories.

Two is the minimum of patterns required in your outfit, but there’s not a maximum, even though there won’t be more points for more patterns. Have fun with the mix!

The Origin.
This task was taken from Task 6 - Cycle 2, meaning a long, long time ago. The club was still in its humble beginnings, a lot of talent had yet to arrive and I wasn't even collaborating organizing the cycles. I was competing instead with poorly outfits. I did win that cycle but the competition was not half as high as now, and that's why, to be honest, there's not anything worth showing you from our second cycle. Feel free to check it HERE yourselves and laugh a little with my outfits though.

The Inspiration.

The Judges' Examples.

The Contestants' Entries.

I trusted our beloved contestants to do good in this task even before posting the applications for cycle 15, and they did not disappoint. The only two entries I'm not that happy with made a mistake of shapes and item choice, not on actually print mixing, so I guess we can proudly say that the task went out smoothly, as you can see in the images above.

Mixing different patterns sounds like no big deal but the truth is that at the time of dressing up we usually don't go for it, so the task was odd enough to have some difficulty and our contestants gave a perfect lesson on how to do it.
  • You can mix different approaches of the same print, like Alma (Alma1902) did with her pop art prints.
  • Mix different prints that match in style and colours, served to you by Kelly (kelzsprouse_1) and Glimmer (CoralCool91).
  • Pick prints that are more subtle so that they don't clash, as Maurice (kickherout) did.
  • Or going all in with the colours and prints to make a fun and different outfit like the original entry of Michal (MajkaStar1999).

Feel free to check this notes when creating outfits. FM-Style Mixing Prints 101 ©.

And, like all classes and like all lessons, there's always some top students that stand out between their classmates. I never ever want to be a teacher but this week I'm giving:

A+ to Monika (the_chuba). Because she managed to mix three different prints like it was nothing, so gracefully. Her outfit is super chill and breezy, all in light colours and still looks city ready and trendy. Some judges were against the Gucci loafers (I must admit that Stardoll could have brought a better version of those although I still like them a lot, I guess you either love them or hate them) so she didn't get the highest score, but that's why we like to have such a big team of judges. Mireia and I have similar tastes so we need a lot of different opinions to balance the judging and make it as fair as possible.

And our as fair as possible judging panel gave the title of Winner of the Week, again, to Yousra (miss.privacy). She did delivered a really cool outfit also mixing not two but 3 different patterns after all.

A to Maurice (kickherout). She definitely made Mireia and I have a great time, cause we spend some time commenting on who did she look like and making some jokes about it, all of them with love of course. Just read her whole feedback (link available on the new task TOPIC in the CLUB) and you'll get an idea ;). Her outfit is kind of crazy and kind of genius at the same time. I'm not able to imagine anyone else to make me say YES to that hat. Love the extravagance and big personality Maurice always brings to her looks you should check her BLOG, one of our partners, to see more of that.

A to Michal (MajkaStar1999). She already risked it in task 2 delivering something very different and it didn't exactly turned out in the best result buy yet she did again. I applaud her being true to her style in addition to her originality. And maybe I wasn't too fond of the outfit with tartan we got to see in task 2 but I am definitely fond of this one. Looks so fun, colourful and powerful.

Finally, on the other, not so bright, side we have that one person who even though she didn't fail (cause let's be honest no one fails in FM-Style lately, they're too good for that) she did get the lowest score and unfortunately that means goodbye. I want to say that despite being a fair elimination in my opinion, I'm still so angry about it because she also brought a lot of personality to the cycle and I was always kind of excited to see her entries. But the competition is the competition and one slip in one task can cost you no tasks at all. That's why we sadly give our farewell to Sandra (dobrapogoda).

All the remaining contestants are already working on the new task and I don't know yet how it will go but I can feel a bit of excitement and enjoyment in the task's topic, so don't miss out and...

Seen on FM-Style: Classic Man | Cycle 15 - Task 4

Hello, it's me. Yes, Mireia. I've decided to honor that beautiful hashtag Judith created for me in last post, and adventure myself in the review of the last task. So, without further ado, continue reading if you want to know what contestants had to do for Task 4 and how they addressed it.

Cycle 15 - Task 4: Classic Man
What would your doll wear if it were a man? Create that outfit without changing the doll’s genre.

We both believe in genre equality and that both, females and males, should be able to wear absolutely WHATEVER THEY WANT, so it’s a quite free task. Just think about your personality and style and how a different body would change the way you dress and portray it without losing your stylish touch in the way.

For the inspiration album we have chosen a-gender (gender neutral) outfits but feel free to do it your way.

The Origin.
This task was taken from Task 6 - Cycle 11. The winner of that cycle was one person who is competing in this Cycle 15! Rawan aka bornthiswaay. She was amazing during all the cycle, and I think she's the first winner that is repeating taking part on the competition once again. Exciting, isn't it? You can check if you want the Imgur Album from Cycle 11 here: Cycle 11 Imgur Album.

Cycle 11 was already one of the "good" cycles, where in every task contestants surprised us week after week. We also had the judges doing example outfits to show contestants some examples of what we were expecting. That translates into a huge amount of outfits I could share with you in this part of the post. I will try to stick to only 5, and sorry, my doll is in there but I think that outfit was cool. 😎💃🏻

mirdith (sorry, that's me); janetteLow (you'll see her down there as well); CoralCool91 (another Cycle 15 contestant);
bornthiswaay (I swear I'm not doing this on purpose, they're just so good); MissAngelFace.

Well, well, well... Where to start...
First of all I have to say that even though Judith wrote a very open description, most of you sticked to the stigmas of what is for guys and what is for girls, and I think I speak for both when I say that we would have liked to see some more out of the box outfits. But with that being said...

I love pandaribbon's outfit with her using typical "feminine" pieces and still rocking the outfit, kelzsprouse_1's description in where she stated things like "I honestly don't see a huge separation because 'male' fashion vs 'female' fashion" or "I added a bag, because why the hell can't males wear and use bags!".  Then we have MajkaStar1999 with a powerful message on her tee and kickherout with an amazing use of socks in there. Alma1902 surprised us with a very luxury summer outfit and dobrapogoda stayed true to Barney Stinson and his use of suits. Some others opted to go for literally man's clothes to create their outfits (the_chuba, miss.privacy, LoveFotinh, janetteLow, CoralCool91) and bornthiswaay has created yet another stylish masculine outfit.

I would also like to put in here Fede's words when judging pandaribbon's outfit, where he stated:

"I appreciated the fact you used long nails, fur and glitters that too many times are defined only for girls. This help to break down the stereotypes. EVERYONE should use what he/she likes not based on gender stereotypes of any kind of stereotypes."

I have to say that my personal favorite this time has been Janette (janetteLow) and her outfit with Johny Depp vibes. I think her doll looks super cool in it and I can picture both genders totally wearing that. Then I gave the next best score equally to Michal (MajkaStar1999), Maurice (kickherout) and Rawan (bornthiswaay). Even if Michal's outfit is a bit more simple, I think it looks very good and little details like the denim shirt poking out of the feminist tee make the outfit more special. Maurice has captivated me not only with the socks, but with those layers on the top part, Chanel bag included. And Rawan... she's always doing very different outfits that are still so cool and fashionable and this time wasn't less. That black and white outfit with the blue coat and all this masculine details like sneakers+socks, short hair with a cap and the shorts make her outfit one of the bests.

Judges seemed to agree partially with me, as first position went to bornthiswaay, then janetteLow and then miss.privacy (that thanks to the extra point she got on the first position on the charts once more). And then finally we have MajkaStar1999 and kickherout in 4th and 5th positions.

Luckily for our contestants, someone dropped out of the cycle which let us not having to eliminate none of these talented people (yet). So, to all the contestants, give your best for next task! And to all the people watching... keep enjoying the cycle and feel free to comment your favorites or your opinions in this blog's comments or directly into our Stardoll club: FM-Style

Shopping: Velvet Orchid

Hello beloved readers of the Stylish Stardoll Sisters! Here I'm again to do something similar to what I did some days ago with another shop on the Starplaza: RIO. There are some shops out there that have been there forever and the clothes they have are... curious. My job here is to show you that we can get nice pieces even from the ugliest most curious stores.

This time is Velvet Orchid the store I'm gonna explore, due to popular demand...

First of all, I have to say that it's been way more easier than RIO. I mean, when I came into RIO everything looked so tacky extravagant and in Velvet Orchid there are some basic clothes like cute tops and denim that are a must in every closet. Browsing through the store I realised I own a great variety of things, check out for yourselves:

Between them are some pieces that I've used A LOT. For example the black pants (MUST HAVE), the grey top that is great to use underneath jackets, the ripped denim jeans for urban outfits or that golden jacket that does wonders finishing outfits. Then there are other pieces that I've bought because... starcoins. I'm talking about the silver pants (worn on a Street Style post recently), the iridescent skirt or that white-greyish sweater. The rest of items I think they are pretty cool and even though I haven't used them much, I'm proud of outfits I've made with them. The long dress is beautiful and basic, so you can use it being the center piece of your outfit or add tons of accessories on top. The sandals/boots/transparent shoes are very Kylie Jenner and even if I may or may not regret buying, they are original and with a bit of effort you can do cool things with them. Finally, the fringed jacket is very Macklemore style and it's a bit hard to style for the shape, but looks cool (outfit here). (And I almost forget those golden shorts that I think I bought once at Christmas, because they were gold... Do not buy those. No need.)

Then, there are some pieces that I'm always using when creating outfits in Starplaza that I plan on buying relatively soon.

For example, this two shoulder bags are perfect to end up outfits. The transparent small bag is perfect for when the outfit has already too much going on, and the comic bag is perfect for the opposite reasons, when your outfit is a bit boring and needs something to pop up. Then we have these furry boots that I think they look very original and even though I haven't created anything with them yet, believe that as I'm buying them sometime you'll see what I do with them on here. The latex socks come from one outfit I saw from Whitney (strobarycake) where she used them to create a pair of thigh high boots. I'm gonna show you how in the outfits below.

And finally your favorite part (I guess). Where I adventure myself in the dark world and try to do outfits with the rest of pieces that you can find at the floors of that hideous curious store in Starplaza. I'm kidding, there's actually some more items that are pretty cool and that I may end up buying.
I have to confess that I was not very inspired, I definitely think you guys can do better...

Share with us your outfits with Velvet Orchid in the comments below!
Between the outfits we like more we will be gifting you one of the Velvet Orchid items you used in the outfit (make sure it's on your wishlists).

Seen on FM-Style: A trip to Scotland | Cycle 15 - Task 3

Task 3 and we're already travelling, what do you have to say about that ANTM?
Sounds crazy? Not making sense? You just have to pay more attention to FM-Style club or read about what task 3 was about below, cause we're about to get on commenting the results.

Cycle 15 - Task 3: A trip to Scotland
It was a trend back in 2013 and it’s kind of trendy now too! Task 3 in Cycle 15 is about tartan! Go search in your closet for checkered items and make an outfit with them.

One tartan item is enough and you can place it anywhere in the look (accessories, main item…), just make sure it’s VISIBLE.

The Origin.
This task was taken from Task 2 - Cycle 3. The winner of that cycle was the one and only: Amaia (amaia_estebanez)!

You can check if you want the Imgur Album from that cycle here: Cycle 3 Imgur Album.
It was a very small cycle, with very few participants and so it had fewer tasks.

For this specific task I wanted to share two outfits two contestants did, and then make a small comparison. You'll see... 😉 I think it's funny how even the quality of the image of the outfits, and even the wigs are so less professional than what we see now! But leaving that behind I do believe that those outfits this two great stylists did are so in even right now, 4-5 years later. Kudos for that stylish members of FM-Style! 💃🏻

⚠️ Ok, warning, this is going to start badly.
Yes, I'm sorry, I have to say it, I was expecting A LOT more. What happened? Is tartan or plaid not inspiring? Is everyone already tired of it? I thought I was going to be amazed by our contestants once more, but it didn't happen, quite the contrary, this week they have let me with a bit of a disappointment feeling.

My favourite outfit this week it's not even from one of them but from one of the judges, Fede (FedericoMosi). How can you look that elegant while wearing tracksuit pants? And that pink plaid top? I absolutely love it. Plus I have that bag, and the graphics are not very good to be honest, that's why I never use it, and he managed to make it work and look super great in that outfit. Fede's outfit would have got my highest score this week for sure, but since he isn't competing this time...

My highest score went to Yousra (miss.privacy) and the other judges seemed to like it too, making her winner of the week again. She made a really cool combination of two different plaid items and mixed it with white and red details, making her outfit polished, trendy and cool.

There were other things I liked yes, like the lacey sexyness in Kelly's (kelzsprouse_1) outfit or the risky mix of prints and colours in Kat's (pandaribbon) entry, but that's about it of what I want to comment. My most frequent thought this week, unfortunately, has been "yes, but... that's it?".

No elimination this week again due to one contestant not completing the task, but that's fine by me, I want all these participants to make me shut up and regret what I have said today. Let's see if the next task (already announced on the club) will be the right one for that!

By the way! On a complete different note... If you want Mireia to also write some reviews make your petition in the comments section with #wewanttoknowmireiasopinion. I'm afraid it's the only thing that will achieve getting her to do it...

Store Statement: Dior Tribute

This is starting to look like the reviews of the Christmas Calendar Mireia used to do... It's almost April and we're still reviewing the Tributes that Christmas holidays brought. At least these clothes are more interesting.

MIREIA'S EDIT: Stop making fun of my Christmas Calendar reviews!! Also, it was not Christmas Calendar (I did my research), it was the Gift-o-meter! And I completed them and I'm proud ;) You can see them here if you're curious: Christmas Gift-O-Meter (2015). And we will complete the Store Statement's from all the Tributes, do not worry.

Time for Dior.

The Collection.
(Images from our partner: Stardoll's Most Wanted)

I'm happy with this Tribute. I ended buying just the blue denim jeans cause I didn't have enough stardollars but in my opinion there are various interesting items here. One that seems to have been a total success is the striped shirt with the big sleeves. To be honest I really liked it and wanted to buy it but again I had to be more selective and in the end I went for the jeans. But I've seen a lot of good stylings with this shirt. It's that kind of item that it's simple and kind of a basic but with a cool twist that can really elevate an outfit.
I also liked the yellow items (that yellow colour it's very cool and pops out easily so can be a great addition to some outfits), the accessories (specially the hats that both look very cute) and the jackets (which all are quite big and perfect for layering in addition of being already cool by themselves).

The Favorites.

The Outfits.
And as always we finish with our outfits. I feel like I'm saying this a lot lately but honestly, this clothes give you a lot of options for stylings, VERSATILITY!

See you on the next Tribute review!

Spotted: New LE

Hello everyone! A new LE collection came out on Friday and the fastest and most stylish stardoll members who managed to get their hands on some of the limited items are already wearing it. I thought about doing a Store Statement post but since you are seeing one of those quite regularly lately due to our never ending review of the Christmas Tributes I took advantage of the situation and switched to another section I love: the spotted section!

In the end there's not much to say about LE, it's pretty much the same as always, good designer items, really expensive and probably already sold out when you visit the store. However seeing the amazing outfits some people do with those items never gets old. So here we have Lawliet. with the Balmain inspired opulent sweater, FaintingSpells with the Burberry inspired red oversized coat and leiona_- with the Zuhair Murad inspired long fringe top.
