Here we are back again with the review of the second task of Cycle 15, the cycle that is being hosted in FM-Style club in stardoll (click here to join if you haven't yet) to celebrate the 5th year anniversary of the club.
For this task there were 14 contestants competing. As a nice surprise for them there was no elimination. Since last week we lost two contestants, and we have the tasks counted for eliminating only one person at each task, we needed to reestablish the number of contestants, and so, we decided that no one was going to be eliminated this week, although we did not tell them that. ;) Let's keep the competition on!
Cycle 15 - Task 2: Your Style Sounds Familiar
We had a whole special cycle in which each task consisted in IMPERSONATING THE STYLE OF A FAMOUS PERSON. The idea was capturing the essence of that person into a new outfit, not just copying one of the looks that this person had worn at any time. On Cycle 1 there was one task that was essentially the same, just that the contestants were the ones CHOOSING AN IT GIRL instead of us stating who to recreate. And this is what you have to do in this task, to commemorate the first cycle ever hosted and special Cycle 8, called Your Style Sounds Familiar.
- Choose a celebrity/social-media-famous
- Research on the style of the person
- Create a brand new outfit that this person could perfectly wear
- Post your entry on the respective topic and make clear who is the person you chose
The Origin.
This task was taken from Task 5 - Cycle 1 & Cycle 8, Your Style Sounds Familiar. That was an special cycle were contestants needed to recreate the style of some famous persons that we told them week after week. Task 5 on Cycle 1, was a more similar concept to this cycle's task. It was the time were everyone was talking about the IT girl concept, and so, they had to pick one IT girl and create an outfit for them. It's me again, Judith. I don't know why Mireia always starts writing the review when she always gets tired before actually commenting on it, but anyway, if anything I should be thankful cause she leaves me all the post prepared and ready for me just to come and comment on what has happened, which is my favourite part!
To be honest this task is one of the least favourites of mine. It's interesting to see who the contestants choose and what they deliver but you don't always like the style of who they choose and that leaves you in the middle of a dilemma: they represented the style good but it's not an outfit you like or you would recommend to imitate. What to do? How to mark? How do we, judges, proceed while remaining impartial? That's why I feel that one of the keys of this task was picking the right person.
And how do you know who is right? You might ask. Obviously our suggestions (see: inspiration Tumblr) are not mandatories and we are fully aware that the chosen one will vary according to the taste and personality of each contestant but I think we both agree it should be someone with a distinctive strong and particular style, otherwise the outfit could be his or hers as much as it could be someone else's and this way you also secure an outfit that will have personality, that won't leave the judges unimpressed.
Some contestants chose wisely and we saw fashion eminencies, artists and great personalities that scored them, along with their styling talent, great results.
My personal favourite this week was our beloved Maurice (kickherout) with her representation of Leandra Medine. Leandra is definitely one of those great picks with a strong and powerful distinctive style and Maurice represented it in a superb way picking all the right items. She delivered an outfit far from simple in which every single detail suits her inspiration. Maybe because of what I have commented about being uncertain how to proceed when judging involves personal taste the rest of the judges didn't think the same as me, and Maurice didn't win this task.
The one who took the first place was Yousra (miss.privacy), who to be honest was another one of my favourites this week, so no hard feelings. She represented Alexandra Carl and brought us a super casual yet super elegant and trendy outfit that screams effortlessly flawless.
And just because I know you're dying to know ;), the other entries I really enjoyed this week were the cool extravagance of Kat (pandaribbon) in the skin of Solange Knowles and the upgrade of Cara Delevingne's style done by Monika (the_chuba).
